Withered Bonnie FNAF Guide

Latest posts by Ognjen Miljkovic (see all)

One of the main reasons why I like Five Nights at Freddy’s is the large number of unique characters it has to offer with the release of each and every game. It’s obvious that a lot of thought was put in while designing those animatronics.

The animatronic that I will cover today is Withered Bonnie, one of the community’s favorite Bonnie counterparts. He’s also one of my favorite animatronics, so I’m happy to talk about him today.

This Withered Bonnie FNAF guide will include everything you need to know about him, from his first appearances to how to counter him in the game. It’s a guide you can always check when you have a question about this beloved character.

Bottom Line Up Front

Withered Bonnie is one of the most unique Five Nights at Freddy’s characters. In my opinion, he really stands out from the majority of the animatronics from the game because of his scary design and behavior that are unmatched.

When I played against him in the game, it was genuinely a terrifying experience. Mostly because he’s one of the most aggressive animatronics, and in most cases, he appears when you are least expecting him. You’ll scream if you get jumpscared by him – his missing face is horrifying to this day.

I wish I got the chance to play against Withered Bonnie in VR because that would’ve been a much better and more realistic experience. I’m a little bit sad he didn’t make any further appearances in the newer canon Five Nights at Freddy’s games.

It’s unfortunate, but maybe we’ll see this great character in the game one day in the future.

Appearances

Withered Bonnie Appearances

The first time we ever got the chance to see Withered Bonnie was in the teaser image for Five Nights at Freddy’s 2. The image appeared for the first time on Scott Cawthon’s website, where Withered Bonnie is sitting down in a dark space with Toy Bonnie and the words “something borrowed…” next to him.

It was a scary sight at that time, especially since no FNAF fans were expecting a new game to come out in a couple of months from the first game’s release. I find the teaser image really nostalgic when looking at it. It just reminds me of all excitement and joy I would feel upon refreshing Scott Cawthon’s website every day.

Five Nights at Freddy’s 2

Withered Bonnie appeared in the physical form for the first time in Five Nights at Freddy’s 2. He is one of the main antagonists who would hunt you throughout the majority of the nights. He would become active from Night 3, and from that point on, you will have to get used to him, as he is a very aggressive animatronic. Withered Bonnie’s difficulty will only increase through the next nights.

He’s fairly annoying, as he can be a difficult character to deal with. But I still find the encounter with him exciting, even though he jumpscared me a hundred times. He starts in the Parts/Service room, where he is sitting down along with three other withered animatronics – Withered Foxy, Chica, and Freddy. Withered Bonnie can come into your office only through the left vent.

Even though he can be seen in the hallway, he can only come into your office through the vents, despite popular belief.

If he manages to enter, he will stand in front of you while making your screen flicker. Therefore, you must put on your mask in time as that’s the only way to counter him. If you don’t succeed, you will get immediately jumpscared by him.

It’s important to have good reflexes to put on your mask right on time. Otherwise, you will have to go through a lot of trouble when dealing with him. It will take you time to build them, but I think anyone can do it without a problem, even the people who don’t play games that often.

Withered Bonnie can also be seen in the “SAVETHEM” minigame, where he’s sitting down on the floor with other withered animatronics. You’ll also see him occasionally on the main menu and the table in the form of a plush. To unlock the plush, you must complete the Double Trouble preset in Custom Night game mode.

FNAF World

Withered Bonnie FNAF World

The next game where Withered Bonnie appeared was FNAF World – one of the most disliked Five Nights at Freddy’s games. However, it’s supposed to be a family-friendly RPG version of Five Nights at Freddy’s, so it’s not canon to the main game.

He appeared as Adventure Withered Bonnie, where he is a minor antagonist and a playable character once you beat him. Withered Bonnie isn’t that difficult to overcome, as he’s one of the animatronics you encounter at the start.

He can be very useful at the beginning of the game. So it’s always nice to have him in your party during that phase. I like having Withered Bonnie in my party early on – I think it’s so cool to see him in this family-friendly form. He, as a character, is just irreplaceable.

Ultimate Custom Night

Withered Bonnie’s next real physical appearance was a few years later in Ultimate Custom Night. He appeared there as one of the selectable antagonists. He is one of the easier animatronics to counter in Ultimate Custom Night. When he comes into your office, you only need to put your Freddy mask on like in Five Nights at Freddy’s 2.

You don’t have to worry about putting it on as fast as possible because UCN gives you more time than FNAF 2, which I find way less fun. Unfortunately, Withered Bonnie can’t be seen on the cameras. That’s sad because I think he would make a lot of impressive visuals as he is one of the cooler-looking animatronics.

I don’t think his jumpscare is impressive, but UCN is more of a strategy game than an actual horror game, so it’s something you’d expect.

Here are some of his interesting voice lines which occur when he kills you. Most of them are bad jokes about his missing face, and they always manage to make me laugh even though I died in the game.

  • “Time to face the consequences of your failure.”
  • “Might as well face the facts. You were always destined to fail.”
  • “You blinked!”
  • “What is this new prison? Is it me trapped, Or is it you? Perhaps it’s us both.”
  • “I may be missing my face, but even I could see who’s stalking.”
  • Five Nights at Freddy’s: Help Wanted

In Five Nights at Freddy’s VR: Help Wanted, Withered Bonnie makes a couple of appearances through different game modes.

This is one of my favorite appearances of Withered Bonnie because it’s so unreal to see him in a VR form after so many years since his release. It just makes him feel more alive than ever before, and I’m definitely a fan of that feeling.

He appears for the first time in the FNAF 2 game mode. Withered Bonnie only appears in the Blacklight version, a much more intense version where the Toy animatronics get replaced with harder Withered ones.

Withered Bonnie functions the same way as in the real Five Nights at Freddy’s 2. You’ll not see him in the vents when he’s coming towards you. You’ll have a little amount of time to put your mask on to defend against him when he comes into your office.

Other than that, his next appearances are in the Curse of Dreadbear DLC, where he appears in the Curse of Dreadbear and Spooky Mansion game modes.

Withered Bonnie

In the Curse of Dreadbear game mode, he is a background character visible during the intro. You can see him in the background as a decoration along with Withered Chica.

The last time he appears is during the Spooky Mansion game mode, where he is present in the Trick or Treat section. In that game mode, you need to go trick or treat at a house filled with various withered animatronics, including Withered Bonnie.

You have masks of all the present animatronics, so you need to keep an eye out through the windows to see who will answer you at the door. You must then put on the mask of the animatronic that will open the door to avoid getting jumpscared.

Overall, it’s a terrifying and exciting game mode. It’s truly something for avid fans of the horror genre, as his entire presence in FNAF VR is perfect. I just wish we could’ve got more of him in the game.

Design

Withered Bonnie Design

I think Withered Bonnie has one of the most interesting designs in the game. He’s one of my favorite animatronics appearance-wise because of so many unique features and design choices that not every animatronic has.

Withered Bonnie is different from the regular Bonnie animatronic. For example, Withered Bonnie has more of a blue-ish shade of purple rather than indigo. His body is built differently, but it’s still obvious that he is an iteration of Bonnie.

The most noticeable thing about Withered Bonnie is that he is completely missing his face. He is one of the few animatronics whose endoskeleton’s face you can see without a problem, and I think that’s the most noticeable part about him.

The lack of face and the scary bright red eyes which stand out in the darkness and wires hanging down across his face make him a perfect character for a horror game. When you look at him, you can only guess through what pain and suffering throughout his lifetime.

Withered Bonnie has a red bow tie with two buttons underneath it, unlike regular Bonnie, who is missing them. This is also a solid piece of evidence that indicates how they’re two different animatronics. Withered Bonnie is missing his entire left arm. You can only see the wiring poking out of his shoulder, which I find to be such a scary detail for an abandoned animatronic.

On the right side of his body, he is only missing a part of his suit on his right hand, which reveals metallic claws that you’ll want to avoid throughout your playthrough. His legs are curved, making him look like he’s bent forward and more sturdy. In addition, the suit on his left foot is missing, revealing his endoskeleton again.

Overall, Withered Bonnie is one of the most remarkable Five Nights at Freddy’s characters and also one of the characters whose design I like the most. If you like his design, I would recommend you to take a look at Ignited Bonnie from The Joy of Creation – a character similar to Withered Bonnie from one of the most popular FNAF fan game series’.

Question: Who is Withered Bonnie?

Answer: Withered Bonnie was most likely the first version of Bonnie ever made. He is older than Bonnie from Five Nights at Freddy’s 1, as the events from FNAF 2 take place much earlier. Withered Bonnie and the classic Bonnie aren’t the same animatronics.

Withered Bonnie FNAF Guide: Conclusion

I think Withered Bonnie is one of the most memorable characters in the Five Nights at Freddy’s series. Even though he doesn’t appear as much throughout the games, he is still a remarkable animatronic everyone loves.

At times, he can be horrifying to deal with, and I think he’s one of the scariest animatronics for many reasons. That’s because he’s missing his entire face, which reveals the insides of his endoskeleton, and because he has two bright red eyes, which are something that you would never want to see in the dark.

It’s very scary to see him standing right in front of you over your desk, where he can kill you at any given second. I wish he was present in more Five Nights at Freddy’s games. I think he’s one of the most interesting characters in the series.
