Today in this article, I’m going to look at the Five Nights at Freddy’s series. That’s one of the most recognizable horror franchises out there, and it all started with this one indie game developer called Scott Cawthon. The first Five Night’s at Freddy’s game achieved astonishing success. And to be fair, I’ve been following the game since it came out way back in 2014. It managed to keep me hooked to the franchise for all these years.
This article will be an office guide for FNAF 1, the first game that started it all. I will cover all the game components and how you can complete them without constantly going through trial and error. This will serve as a guide that you can always rely on when stuck at a certain point in the game. Use this as a cheat sheet like during your exam.
This guide aims to introduce you to all the essential game mechanics within the first game. I will ensure that you are met with everything you need to know to finish the game without a problem. This is among one of the hardest Five Nights at Freddy’s games. It will be quite a challenge to beat it. So you must practice regularly with the help of my instructions if you want to master it completely.
Everything You Need To Know
You must know that Five Nights at Freddy’s 1 is the first horror indie game to introduce the point-and-click style of gameplay to the horror genre.
That means that the premise of this game is to stop the deadly animatronics from entering your office and thus murdering you in the process. You need to look over them with the help of your security cameras. And there’s also a pair of security doors that protects you from the animatronics if they get too close. You must use the flashlight to check if an animatronic is waiting for you behind the doors.
But the main catch here is that you have a limited power resource, which drains as you use the cameras, doors, and lights. So besides avoiding these deadly animatronics, you also have to avoid running out of power. Because when that happens, there is a 90% that it will be an instant game over for you.
You must survive in this environment for six in-game hours, about 8 minutes and 37 seconds in real-time. That is a long time, and one of the main reasons why playing this game can become a real nightmare. All animatronics have different behaviors, which you must memorize. Therefore, you must establish a routine that will help you look over the animatronics as efficiently as possible without wasting too much power and time.
As the nights go further, the tension will build up quicker during the nights. The animatronics will become more aggressive and deadly than before. And there is even a high possibility that you will encounter at least one of the secrets in the game. They are usually scary screens or moments that will always catch you off guard.
This is one of the scariest Five Nights at Freddy’s games. Not a new FNAF game has replicated the same feeling you get when playing this classic.
Freddy Fazbear is a character that is an anthropomorphic animatronic. He was introduced in the debut series Five Nights at Freddy’s 1 as one of the main antagonists. And he also makes an appearance as a titular antagonist. Freddy is an anthropomorphic bear that is completely brown. He has a black bow tie, a tophat, and a microphone in his right hand. His design is one of the most memorable in the indie horror community.
Freddy is the main character and the lead singer of the group. Unfortunately, Freddy is also one of the deadliest animatronics. And I think he is one of the scariest in this game. Freddy will become active only after Night 3. From then, he will start to slowly make his way toward you.
To defend against him, you will have to constantly look over him on the cameras. You must check them as frequently because if you do that regularly, he won’t be able to move to the next room.
You will often hear his laughter and see his white eyes stare at you from the dark. He is a very aggressive animatronic, and he will become real trouble in the later nights. I find him to be annoying, and believe me, you will too.
The last camera where he will appear before coming into your room is Cam 4B. And when you shine the light in the hallway, you won’t see him at the glass window like Bonnie and Chica. Rather he will just wait for you to drop your guard, so he can jumpscare you, which will result in a game over.
He is also the only animatronic to have two different jumpscares in the game. The second one occurs when you run out of power. Freddy’s face will start shining in the dark as the lights go out, and you will be able to hear a remix of the Toreador march. He will jumpscare you after a few seconds of playing that song.
Bonnie is a character that is an anthropomorphic rabbit that was introduced in Five Nights at Freddy’s 1. He is one of the main antagonists who would hunt you throughout the entire night.
Bonnie is an anthropomorphic rabbit that features an indigo shade of blue. In his hands, he is holding a red electric guitar. And one of his scariest features is his emotionless facial expression. He is one of the scariest animatronics in the franchise.
Scott Cawthon also mentioned how he had reoccurring nightmares of Bonnie. He also thinks he’s one of the scariest animatronics in Five Nights at Freddy’s. In the first Five Nights trailer at Freddy’s, he is shown running through the Hallway like Foxy in the game. And there is also a scene where he takes his face off, revealing the endoskeleton behind it.
Bonnie is the lead guitarist in the group. He is animatronic, which you will have to deal with the majority of the time. He will become active from Night 1, and he will be the first animatronic to leave the stage. To save yourself from this deadly animatronic, you will have to consistently check the Cam 2B as that is the last place where you can see him on the cameras before he goes up to your doors.
If he isn’t there, you should then, as fast as possible, check with the flashlight if he is at your door. Bonnie will not hesitate to jumpscare you as soon as you pull the cameras back.
Chica is a character that’s an anthropomorphic chicken that was introduced in the first Five Nights at Freddy’s. She is one of the main antagonists who would hunt the player throughout the entire night.
Chica is an anthropomorphic chicken that is completely yellow. Around her body, she has a white bib with her famous slogan “Let’s Eat!!!” printed right onto it in bright yellow color. She is also pictured with her cupcake companion – a half-animatronic that doesn’t do any harm. Cupcake can also be seen in the office.
Chica is the backup singer in the group, and like Bonnie, you will have to deal with her throughout all five nights. She becomes active on the first night, from which she will become more difficult to deal with. Chica will leave her stage early in the game to come through the entire pizzeria just to your office. She isn’t as scary as Freddy and Bonnie, but you mustn’t underestimate her.
To counter her, you must frequently check the Cam 4B – the same camera on which Freddy appears. And if you can’t find her on any of the cameras, you should check your right door as fast as possible by flashing the light.
If she’s there, you will see her face pressed on the window with her wide beak open, ready to murder you. Thus if you just shut the door and wait for a few seconds, there is a high possibility that she will be gone. Because if you don’t manage to do that, you will get almost immediately jump scared by her.
She can also sometimes be heard rummaging in the kitchen – a place in the pizzeria where the camera doesn’t work. So you have to rely solely on audio. It’s a mysterious room nonetheless.
Foxy is a character that is an anthropomorphic fox that was introduced in Five Nights at Freddy’s 1. He is one of the main antagonists who would hunt you throughout the majority of the nights. Foxy is an anthropomorphic fox that is completely red. He has an eye patch over one eye and a metal hook instead of his right hand. He is a bit worn out as he has several holes in his body.
Foxy is one of the entertainers in the group who has his stage where he comes out from. He is, in most cases, active from Night 3. After that, he will have around five phases of getting out of his stage. You must check him because once he gets out, he will run straight to your office like Bonnie in the trailer for FNAF 1.
You must check as much as possible Cam 1C as that’s the camera where the Pirate Cove is located. If you monitor him frequently, you will lock him in a place like you do, Freddy. However, he is not that hard to counter, as he is one of the less aggressive animatronics.
But if he somehow manages to get out, you must close the left door as fast as possible. If you close your left door on time, you will hear a bump indicating that the poor Foxy has hit the door.
Also, a fun fact is that if you check the Cam 2A immediately after he disappeared from the Pirate Cove, you can see him running in the hall.
Golden Freddy is a character that is an anthropomorphic bear animatronic that was introduced in the first Five Nights at Freddy’s. He is one of the antagonists who would occasionally try to kill you throughout some nights.
Golden Freddy is an anthropomorphic bear animatronic that is completely yellow. He is even called Yellow Bear in the files. Golden Freddy and Freddy Fazbear share the same model. The only difference is that Golden Freddy sits on the floor in a crumpled position.
Golden Freddy is not a real animatronic in the game but rather a hallucination that hunts you. He can appear almost all night, and he is something that a new player least expects. As a result, your first encounter with him will be most likely terrifying.
While checking the cameras, there is a possibility that upon entering Cam 2B, you can see his face on a poster. You will then hear a little girl’s giggle. And if you return to your office, you will see Golden Freddy sitting with his head bent, looking straight at your soul.
There will be some flashes of scary images of animatronics and the words “It’s me.” Thus he will jumpscare you and crash your game in the process. His jumpscare is a still image of a close-up of his face, with morbid sounds in the background.
He is one of the most mysterious characters in the entire Five Nights at Freddy’s series. And he’s personally my favorite animatronic out of them all.
How to Beat All Nights
The first night is not challenging and pretty easy to beat. You will be first welcomed by Phone Guy and his dialogue. Then, he will introduce you to your new job at Freddy Fazbear’s pizzeria. The animatronics that will be active during this night are Bonnie and Chica. There are rare occasions when Foxy becomes active, but you don’t have to worry about that.
Bonnie and Chica will usually start moving from 1 or 2 am. You can see them go straight through the pizzeria, which is the perfect time to start memorizing how they act. They will at least once come right next to your door. So you should get used to frequently check them. And especially check the doors if you can’t find them on any of the cameras.
If you see them looking through the office’s window, just close the door and check if they are gone with the light. Then, you will know if you don’t see their silhouette through the window. If Foxy starts coming out of his Pirate Cove, just look at him a few times, and you will be fine. You will make it to 6 am without a problem as the power will run out very slowly.
The second night is slightly harder than the first but still manageable to beat. You will be welcomed again with the Phone Guy’s dialogue. However, you can skip it by pressing the mute button within the first 20 seconds. This night will feature more of Foxy, as Bonnie and Chica will also become more aggressive than before.
Check the cameras to see where they are. Especially the cameras 2B and 4B, as they are places where you will see Bonnie and Chica right before they come to your door. Check on Foxy a few times, just to make sure he will not come out of the Pirate Cove.
Things will start getting more intense, and you will run out of power faster than before, so be careful.
The third night is the night when all animatronics become active. It starts getting more intense from now on. During this night, all animatronics will become active, so now you will have to worry about Freddy and Foxy even more than before.
Also, during this night and all nights after, you will have to use your cameras much less than before. As power now really becomes a crucial resource that you must use wisely.
That means you need to regularly check the cameras 2B and 4B, where Bonnie and Chica come before heading right for your office door. And also camera 1C, because that’s where Foxy’s Pirate Cove is located. You will want to watch over to find where Freddy is, so you can lock him in place without a problem.
It can be quite problematic if he is at Cam 4B. As that means you will have to constantly check on him, so he doesn’t jumpscare you. I would recommend you to close the right door immediately if you don’t see him there or anywhere in the pizzeria.
Try to establish a routine where you will check Bonnie, Chica, Foxy, and Freddy in order. That will help you reserve your power so you don’t have to run out near night’s end. Check on these animatronics frequently as possible. It will become significantly harder, so there are chances that you are going to die a few times.
The fourth night is a harder version of Night 3. This will be the last time you will hear Phone Guy talk as he will get murdered on the call. During this night you will have to do everything like in the third but just faster. Freddy will certainly become more aggressive, and you will have him reach the Cam 4B until the end of the night.
You will have to be faster than before, as you will most likely die a couple of times as things become much harder. In addition, you will have to now preserve your power even more, as it drains out even quicker than before. But if that happens, don’t worry. There are still chances that you reach 6 am because Freddy will not kill you immediately upon the lights going out.
Nights 5, 6, 7
Nights 5, 6, and 7 are the hardest challenges you’re going to encounter while playing this game. Unfortunately, these are also the nights where there is no Phone Guy since he is dead, which is quite depressing if you ask me. Everyone will become aggressive, and the only thing you have to do is establish a good routine of checking the animatronics. Practice the routine through the process of trial and error.
Don’t bother anymore to check the Cam 2B that often, as you can just check if Bonnie is thereby flashing the light. The only two cameras that you want to be checking are 1C and 4B, but 4B much more frequently if Freddy is present there.
You also must worry about Foxy. Start checking his camera once he is in the third stage of getting out of the Pirate Cove. Other than that, you will need to be fast and good with your power to make it last until 6 am. Be economical with your power, and fast with your reflexes. And if you practice enough, you will finish one of these nights in no time soon.
Just repeat this process as better as possible, and you will finish these nights after some time. I had a lot of trouble when playing on the sixth night. You need to develop a good routine to beat it.

FNAF 1 Office Guide: Conclusion
I think that everyone can agree that Five Nights at Freddy’s 1 is one of the most influential and recognizable indie horror games. It introduced a point-and-click style of playing to the horror genre, and I think it’s certainly the best at it.
The game slowly builds up tension as you progress through the nights. The scary design and ambiance make it remarkable as it’s something that you have never seen before. Out of this small game came out an entire series that now features multiple game entries, a huge chain of merchandise, an established book series, and even a movie in the works.
In my opinion, it’s certainly one of the best horror games out there, as even people who aren’t the biggest fans of the horror genre can enjoy this game without a problem. It’s truly a masterpiece of its generation.
