Mangle is an animatronic that appeared for the first time in Five Night’s at Freddy’s 2. She is an unusual animatronic in Five Night’s at Freddy’s, she is dismantled, torn apart into bits and pieces. That is where her name came from since she would always be in the mangled form.

This character in particular has a sad story, that results in even scarier appearances through most of Five Night’s at Freddy‘s games. It’s an interesting animatronic that is fairly recognizable. Her gender was always a big question in the community, because the creator of the Five Nights at Freddy’s – Scott Cawthon, never confirmed her actual gender.

Appearances

Five Night’s at Freddy’s 2

Mangle got introduced to the Five Night’s at Freddy’s franchise for the first time in the second installment of Five Night’s at Freddy’s. She got implemented along with the new toy animatronics. The difference between her and the other toy animatronics is that she isn’t complete, Mangle is a dismantled toy counterpart of Foxy.

The place where you would see her for the first time is on the camera from Kid’s Cove, she lays in the corner of the room.

Mangle consists of an entangled body and an endo-head sticking out of her shoulder, her body is almost completely gone, and the only thing that you can see is her endoskeleton. Her mask is not broken at all, she is just missing an eye.

Mangle has two red cheeks and a red lipstick over her mouth, she also has a white hand sticking out of the opposite side of her body from the endo-head. When you encounter Mangle, you will hear a noise that sounds like radio static emitting right from her. She would attack you by slowly moving through the pizzeria, dragging along that eerie noise with her everywhere she goes.

You will have to watch over your right vent, you will know that she is in there if you start hearing that eerie sound all of a sudden. To prevent her from coming into the office you will need to put your mask on for a few seconds.

If you do not manage to do that, she will not jumpscare you straightforwardly. But rather she would hang from the ceiling waiting for you to look at the cameras. Once you do that, she will jumpscare you the second you put it down.

Five Night’s at Freddy’s 3

In Five Night’s at Freddy’s 3, the Mangle would appear on multiple occasions. When in the office you can see her mask in the box, which holds the parts of the animatronics from the Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 location. Mangle also appears in the form of Phantom Mangle, the first counterpart of Mangle that we ever got to see.

Mangle also has a special minigame within the game, it is a secret minigame only accessible during the second night. To activate it you will have to head to the CAM-07, there you will see an arcade machine. You will have to press the following buttons in order to activate the minigame:

  1. Top Left
  2. Bottom Left
  3. Top Right
  4. Bottom Right

Once you have done that, you will be playing as Mangle that is missing four parts of her body, which you need to collect while avoiding a child that will dismantle you, if you touch him the minigame will end. The final ending of Five Night’s at Freddy’s 3 depends on how you finish these minigames.

You can take the normal route that a normal player would. Just collect the four pieces, avoid the child, and go straight for the door, but the minigame is much deeper than that.

You can go through the wall that is above the regular exit. Once you pass through it, you will start falling down. When you reach the bottom, the silhouette of the Puppet crying will await you. Once you go left you will see a bunch of red balloon platforms which you need to follow in order to reach the cake that will make you able to get the Cake ending.

Five Night’s at Freddy’s 4

Mangle made a cameo appearance in Five Night’s at Freddy’s 4 in an end-of-night minigame where her plushie is seen in Elizabeth Afton’s room. The toy of her is dismantled like the Mangle we know exists. Besides that, she got another counterpart in the Five Nights at Freddy’s 4 Halloween update, where she is featured as a secondary antagonist Nightmare Mangle.

Ultimate Custom Night

Mangle is present in the Ultimate Custom Night as a selectable antagonist. She is only roaming around in the vents, where you must use a vent snare to stop her. If you do not manage to do that in time, she will never leave the vent opening, forcing you to have it open for the rest of the night. If you leave it open, you will get jumpscared sooner or later.

Five Night’s at Freddy’s VR: Help Wanted

Image from Fandom

In Five Night’s at Freddy’s VR: Help Wanted there are selectable game modes that you can play. Mangle appears in the sixth game mode – Vent Repair. There you need to repair the vents to stop Mangle from jumpscaring you. She will be constantly attacking you, so you must act quickly. There is a high possibility that you will encounter Mangle a few times without her jumpscaring you.

When playing the blacklight version of this level, you will encounter the shadow counterpart of Mangle instead of the regular one. Mangle is also present in the Curse of Dreadbear DLC for FNAF VR: Help Wanted. She is available in the second selectable game mode – Spooky Mansion, the level where she is located is called Build-A-Mangle.

The purpose of the level is to build your own mangled animatronic that resembles Mangle. You will have two conveyor belts that are going to bring in certain body parts, the TV screens in front of you will let you know which ones you need to collect.

Failing to collect the correct parts will endure real Mangle to come out of the air duct right above you, directly warning you. If you don’t get 7 out of 10 correct body parts, you will be jumpscared straightforwardly by her.

Five Night’s at Freddy’s: Security Breach

Mangle doesn’t physically appear in this, she just has a cameo. She is present on a wide variety of posters and arcade games. And her head is seen in the parts of the animatronic amalgamation – the Blob, that was introduced in FNAF: Security Breach. Mangle’s head has bright red glowing eyes.

Other FNAF Games

Mangle and all of his counterparts besides Nightmare Mangle are present as playable characters in FNAF World. She is also present as the major character in Five Nights at Freddy’s AR: Special Delivery.

Counterparts

Phantom Mangle

Image from Fandom

Phantom Mangle is the first Mangle counterpart that we got, she was introduced in the third installation of Five Night’s at Freddy’s. She is a character that we actively play against throughout the night, an illusion that the security guard is experiencing.

She is much different in design by color and texture, she is still in the same shape as Mangle from Five Night’s at Freddy’s 2. Her body is dark green, decayed, and old. The most noticeable part of her is her white eyes and wide-open jaw.

When you spot her accidentally on the cameras, you will be greeted by her in front of your office. She will emit a sound so loud that it will crash your game audio systems. She will stay in front of your office until you restore the audio systems.

Nightmare Mangle

Image from Fandom

Nightmare Mangle was seen for the first time in the Halloween update for Five Night’s at Freddy’s 4. She is animatronic which completely replaces Nightmare Foxy. Nightmare Mangle has two sets of demonic teeth and a broken mask. She has three arms and is ahead of a demonic endoskeleton popping out of her shoulder.

She has three working legs with which she can stand and walk properly. Nightmare Mangle doesn’t have a proper body but rather an entangled endoskeleton.

Nightmare Mangle will run around the halls, waiting for you to leave the door that she wants to go through. If you don’t confront her on time, you will have issues with her being in your closet. You must hold the closet shut. After a few seconds, she will slowly start transforming into a harmless plushie.

Nightmare Mangle is functioning in the same way as Nightmare Foxy.

Funtime Foxy

Funtime Foxy was seen for the first time in a non-canon Five Night’s at Freddy’s game – FNAF World, she was a selectable character that the player could play with. A few months later, we got to see her in a canon Five Night’s at Freddy’s game – Five Night’s at Freddy’s: Sister Location.

Funtime Foxy is a normal animatronic version of Mangle, she is complete without any of the parts missing from her. Her body has the same color palette as Mangle, as well as the same eye color. This time she even has eyebrows, she has two pink cheeks and pink lipstick across her mouth.

On her chest, she has a red bowtie and under it a speaker which through she can speak. Her body is more modernized than the rest of animatronics, she has a shiny metallic body, and a big tale with pink color at its end.

She has her own special part of the underground location where she is located – Funtime Auditorium. In the game you have to pass a few times through there, but to prevent Funtime Foxy from jumpscaring you, you have to constantly shine a light on her to make her go away.

Origin

Image from Fandom

“The staff literally had to put Foxy back together after every shift. Eventually, they stopped trying and left him as some ‘take apart and put back together’ attraction. Now, he’s just a mess of parts. I think the employees refer to him as just “the Mangle”.

Mangle has a perhaps darker origin than the rest of Toy animatronics. In the Five Night’s at Freddy’s 2 pizzerias she is located in the Kid’s Cove, a place where a lot of kids would appear to be hanging out. Due to the immaturity of said children, they would usually take her forcefully apart, playing with her body without caring about the aftermath.

In the end, Mangle just became a toy for the children that would celebrate their birthdays at the Freddy Fazbear pizzeria. That happened so often that the employees working at the pizzeria started to reference her as the Mangle because she was always in a mangled state.

Mangle has two personalities inside of her, she shares the same body with the endoskeleton that is sticking out of her shoulder. Multiple voices, male and female, can be heard speaking from her. This is most noticeable in Ultimate Custom Night, where he, or she, has her voice lines done in both genders.

Mangle FNAF Guide: Conclusion
