FNAF Mediocre Melodies Guide

Latest posts by Fredrick Ochami (see all)

I have encountered many bizarre animatronics in the Five Nights at Freddy’s video games. There’s Ennard, Egg Baby, and even DJ Music Man. However, Mediocre Melodies take the cake in weirdness. So, what are FNAF Mediocre Melodies?

  • Mediocre Melodies is an animatronic band inspired by Freddy and his band
  • The animatronics first appear in Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria Simulator
  • The band has five members: Happy Frog, Mr. Hippo, Pigpatch, Nedd Bear, and Orville Elephant

These animatronics are elusive, and you must be on the lookout to encounter them.

Bottom Line Up Front

The Mediocre Melodies are animatronics forming a band similar to Freddy Fazbear’s. They first appear in Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria Simulator and are active enemies in Ultimate Custom Night.

The Mediocre Melodies’ Physical Appearances and Personalities

Nedd Bear

Nedd Bear

Nedd Bear resembles Freddy Fazbear. They are brown bears with circular ears, a top hat, freckles on their cheeks, and endoskeletons. However, Nedd Bear’s green eyes are droopy and misaligned, a red hat connected by a spring and a red tie with white stripes.

Nedd Bear’s personality mirrors his goofy look. He cracks one-liners, has a hillbilly accent, and seems oblivious to his actions’ consequences.

Happy Frog

Happy Frog is a green anthropomorphic frog made to look feminine. She has buck teeth on her upper and lower jaw and yellow accents on her stomach, fingertips, eyelids, and jaw.

Happy Frog also has black eyelashes, magenta eyes, and a yellow ball connected to her head by a white wire. A small electric box lies behind her, and she holds a microphone, signaling her as the singer of the Mediocre Melodies.

According to Happy Frog’s voice lines in Ultimate Custom Night, she seems innocent and childlike.

Orville Elephant

Orville Elephant

Orville Elephant is an animatronic elephant, like his name suggests. He is orange with lighter accents on his torso, hoof toes, inner ears, eyes, and trunk. He has blue eyes, front teeth on his lower jaw, and wears a white-striped purple top hat.

Additionally, the animatronic also has a purple flower on his chest with two black buttons underneath. He holds a black magic wand and, like Happy Frog and Nedd Bear, has an electrical power source behind him.

As the magician of Mediocre Melodies, Orville Elephant has a flair for the dramatic. He speaks in a posh British accent which he injects with pompousness and flair.

Pigpatch

Pigpatch

Pigpatch is an animatronic pig. He is pink with lighter accents on his torso, inner ears, snout, and the soles of his feet. He has rosy cheeks, a spiral tail, two small tusks on his lower jaw, different-colored eyes (one green, the other blue), and a pink belly button. Pigpatch wears brown pants and carries a banjo.

Despite his hillbilly appearance, Pigpatch is surprisingly sophisticated. He references ancient proverbs and even quotes Sun Tzu’s ‘The Art of War.’ However, he ruins the effect by playing the banjo immediately after.

Mr. Hippo

Mr. Hippo

Mr. Hippo is a hippopotamus animatronic. He is purple with lighter shades on his belly, muzzle, and around his eyes. He has blue eyes and four front teeth on his lower jaw. Additionally, Mr. Hippo wears a black top hat, a red-petaled flower on his chest, and two black buttons beneath the flower.

Based on Mr. Hippo’s dialogue in Ultimate Custom Night, he is the oldest member of the Mediocre Melodies. After a jumpscare, the horror game forces you to listen to Mr. Hippo’s long fables–which almost put me to sleep.

Mediocre Melodies Lore

The Mediocre Melodies are canon but don’t play a significant role in the franchise. However, I have thoughts on their role in the video game franchise’s lore.

My Theory

The main FNAF villain, William Afton, created the Mediocre Melodies as an alternative to Freddy Fazbear and his band. However, the Mediocre Melodies never made it to the stage. Instead, William locked them away or discarded them.

William then died in a spring-lock failure–escaping the souls of the children he killed, he hid in an old Spring Bonnie suit that malfunctioned and pierced his body. However, William remained alive because he used Remnant–a mysterious material that can make one immortal.

William’s soul fused with the Spring Bonnie suit, and he returned as Scraptrap when his son, Michael Afton, salvaged him from the back of Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza Place.

Eventually, Henry Emily, and Michael burned down the building, releasing the other haunted animatronics. William’s soul, however, went to a personal hell where one of his victims, Cassidy, was his tormentor.

In William Afton’s hell, he encountered the animatronics he had made, including the Mediocre Melodies. Cassidy also possessed these animatronics as she sometimes spoke through them when they killed William Afton–which happened countless times.

So, the Mediocre Melodies got revenge on their maker for discarding them through Ultimate Custom Night when they were free to torment him.

Appearances

Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria Simulator

In this video game, the Mediocre Melodies have a minor role. They are items you can buy from Stan’s Budget Tech Catalog. However, Orville Elephant isn’t available here: you have to get him at the Rare Finds Auction.

Put him on the Star Curtain Stage and the other band members on the Deluxe Concert Stage to unlock the Mediocre Melodies achievement.

Ultimate Custom Night

The Mediocre Melodies shine in Ultimate Custom Night. Being trophies isn’t their role. Instead, they are enemies you can face. Pigpatch, Mr. Hippo, and Happy Frog advance towards you through hoses and the ducts. Happy Frog is the easiest animatronic to eliminate: use an audio lure since it always works on her.

However, don’t use the heater since Happy Frog is immune to it. Pigpatch and Mr. Hippo will avoid you if you use the audio lure or heater to keep the office warm. Nedd Bear also uses the hoses and the overhead duct system to reach you. The audio lure only works on Nedd Bear half the time. However, keep the heater ready to repel him.

Orville Elephant uses the ducts to hunt you like the other Mediocre Melodies animatronics. However, he is the most challenging. He is faster than the others, and the audio lure only works on him 10% of the time. So, you need the heater to get rid of Orville Elephant.

FNAF: Security Breach

The Mediocre Melodies have a cameo in Security Breach. You can see stylized versions of the band on the Nedd Bear: The Space Soldier arcade cabinet. Unfortunately, you can’t play the arcade game–which looks promising.

Mods

Since the Mediocre Melodies have such few official appearances, you’re relegated to mods if you want more of them. Below are the best mods featuring these animatronics–ones that even franchise creator Scott Cawthon would love.

Ultimate Custom Night – Withered Mediocre Melodies (Mod) by NIXORY

Mediocre Melodies don’t have direct counterparts, so this mod fills that gap. Ultimate Custom Night – Withered Mediocre Melodies (Mod) replaces the original Mediocre Melodies with Withered Counterparts. The mod is exclusive to Ultimate Custom Night, so you can’t play it on any other FNAF game.

FNaF 2 with Toy Mediocre Melodies Animatronics! Wip! (FNaF 2 Mods)

Scott Cawthon didn’t introduce the Mediocre Melodies until the sixth FNAF game. However, modder ZBonnieXD2 brings them to FNAF 2. In this mod, the Mediocre Melodies replace Freddy Fazbear and his band.

The change is purely cosmetic since the animatronics don’t wander through vents. Instead, they follow the same actions as the animatronics they replace. However, I still enjoyed this mod if only for the characters.

Adventure Mediocre Melodies Animatronics for FNaF World (Mod)

What if the Mediocre Melodies animatronics were part of FNaF World? This mod from TheRealZBonnieXD makes that happen. They replace different animatronics: Withered Chica, Withered Freddy, Withered Foxy, Withered Bonnie, and Shadow Freddy.

Counterparts

The Mediocre Melodies animatronics do not have direct counterparts. However, I’ve compared them to other animatronic bands in Five Nights at Freddy’s.

Rockstar Animatronics

The Rockstar Animatronics first appeared in Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria Simulator, the same as the Mediocre Melodies. The Rockstar Animatronics include:

However, Rockstar Animatronics are direct counterparts of the original animatronics, while the Mediocre Melodies are original (except for Nedd Bear).

Glamrock Animatronics

The Glamrock Animatronics are rock-inspired animatronics that appear in FNAF: Security Breach. They include:

Yes, Mr. Hippo is part of the Glamrock Animatronics. However, the process is complicated. In one of the Security Breach endings, you will see a newspaper clipping with an image of Mr. Hippo in Glamrock attire. He has replaced Monty as the bassist while Monty is now the band’s lead singer.

Classic Animatronics

These are the first animatronics we encounter in FNAF. They include:

They are the primary entertainers of Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. However, they are haunted: they contain the souls of children William Afton killed at the pizzeria.

FNAF Mediocre Melodies Guide: Conclusion

The Mediocre Melodies are intriguing animatronics with criminally minor appearances in the franchise. They are canon and push the lore forward–especially if you play Ultimate Custom Night and love piecing together clues.

These animatronics deserve more love for the community, and I suggest playing UCN and the mods I listed to experience them.
